August started off with a bang. We had just returned
from a movie one Friday night when we heard a loud crash. This black
car had come careening down Turner Warnell (which T's into Callender) and
didn't slow down one bit. It hit the ditch and then went airborne into
the field next to our house. The driver then drove out of the field
and took off down Callender. When we went to investigate the crash
scene, the car had already made the loop around Callender, to 287, and back
down Turner Warnell. It limped around the corner. The car could
neither accelerate nor brake. So after the driver figured this out, he
just ran it into a neighbor's mailbox in order to stop it. The
intoxicated teenage boys then exited the car, the driver screaming on his
cell phone for his friend to get over here and pick him up. We huddled
in the bushes out of site, on the phone with the police. Soon his friend
arrived and picked them up, but not until we saw one of the boys toss a
black bag over a fence. It took about 15 minutes for the police to
arrive. Mainly because the dispatcher couldn't decide if it was
Arlington or Mansfield who should respond. Once the Mansfield police
showed up, the Arlington police weren't far behind.
After hanging out with the police for about an hour, the story started to
put itself together. The car was stolen. The boys had taken it
for a "joy ride." There was a report of a black car rolling not far
from us earlier in the night. Also, we followed the path that it took
when it circled the block and found where they had driven it over and off of
a culvert. The black bag contained an almost empty fifth of Jack
Daniels.
We don't know if they ever caught anyone from this. It was quite a
night though. |

Devin takes a spin on Mimi and Grandad's four wheeler at
their place in Lipan. Don't worry, he doesn't drive it by himself,
yet. |

When it rains, we have a few days of a natural pond along
the south side of our lot. The neighbors recently erected a wall to
try to stop the incoming water. You'll remember that a couple of
months ago, their house flooded. A couple of weeks after that deluge
while we were on vacation, four other neighborhood houses flooded as well.
Ginger loves to pounce in the water while the neighbor's terrier barks like
mad along the wall. |

Angela took some old wood fencing someone had thrown out
and created this lovely and functional potting bench. As I type she's
working on a tool armoire. |

 |
She also created this awesome Koi Pond. She rocks!
(no pun intended, really) We have two Koi, two goldfish and two sucker
fish. |

 |
Caitlin gets up some major speed on a water slide at one of
Arlington's public pool facilities. We attended a birthday party for
Caleb Carter there. |
 |
Long story, but three of our fish in Angela's new Koi Pond
died. I came outside later to find the kids playing with them.
Ugh. |

 |
Devin's and Caitlin's first day of school. They're
getting so smart! Devin is in the 1st grade and Caitlin is in the 3rd. |
 |
Did you ever see a red dragonfly? I didn't even know
they existed. We got a picture of this one who was flying with another
red friend outside at the pond. |
 |
Angela, in yet another flurry of creative genius, built a
mulch collection area out of (you guessed it) discarded wood fencing. |

An IT client of mine called me over for a computer problem
they were having. Upon inspection, I found this teacup Chihuahua
nesting inside of the CPU. The owner exclaimed, "that's where you've
been!" |

Caitlin and Devin have gotten in the entrepreneurial
mindset lately. They setup a lemonade stand in front of the house
(with a little help from Mom). What they've found is it doesn't matter
how low you sell the goods for. People usually tip or say, "keep the
change." Devin's sign says "Free Parking." Good thing. A valet
would have cost them through the roof. |
